Health and Safety Measures

Lomagundi Construction Services Ltd provides unique and flexible, specialised construction activities such as Diamond Drilling and Sawing. The techniques associated with these activities are essential in various construction and civil engineering applications. Ensuring safety and control during these processes involves several key practices. Here are some of the safety measures that Lomagundi CS cannot do without.

Safety Measures

Control Measures

Our commitment to the Environment

Lomagundi Construction Services Ltd recognises that Diamond Drilling and Sawing activities can have significant environmental impacts if not managed properly. For us, implementing effective environmental management practices is essential to minimize these impacts and ensure sustainable operations. Here are the key environmental management measures for diamond drilling and sawing:

Dust & Particulate Control

1. Wet Drilling and Sawing:

   – Using water to suppress dust during drilling and sawing helps us in capturing dust at the source and reducing airborne particulate matter.

2. Dust Extraction Systems:

   – The installation and use of local exhaust ventilation systems such as our dust vac extractors capture and filter dust.

3. Regular Cleaning:

   – Frequently cleaning our points of work areas as we go also prevent dust accumulation.

Noise Management

1. Noise Barriers and Enclosures:

   – Lomagundi Construction Services Ltd implements, where possible and practical, noise barriers or enclosures around drilling and sawing equipment to reduce noise pollution.

2. Equipment Maintenance:

   – Our PAT tests and regular interval maintenance of our equipment helps us to ensure that they operates efficiently and quietly, as per our manufacturers’ recommendations.

3. Operational Scheduling:

   – Scheduling noisy operations during daytime hours minimises disturbance to nearby communities.

Water Management

1. Water Recycling:

   – Lomagundi Construction Services Ltd is pleased with its use of Water Management System (WMS) such as our wet vacs that recycle water used in wet drilling and sawing to minimize water consumption.

2. Proper Disposal:

   – When it comes to the water contaminated with slurry and other pollutants, the Lomagundi CS way of treating it before disposing of it, to prevent environmental contamination, is letting it sit in our bowsers for some time to allow clean water to separate and stagnant above the pollutants before carefully pumping it out.

3. Spill Prevention:

   – Where possible and practical, we implement spill containment measures or put in place, nappies to manage accidental releases of water or other fluids.

Waste Management

1. Waste Segregation:

   – All Lomagundi CS operatives know and understand that they’re only as good as they clean up after themselves, which is 1 of our golden rules. We segregate waste materials such drilled brick/concrete cores, rebar or slurry, to mention but a few, for proper disposal or recycling. We take full ownership of our works and the waste we produce.

2. Recycling:

   – We recycle concrete and other materials that we produce whenever possible to reduce or prevent landfill use.

3. Proper Disposal:

   – Lomagundi CS understands the impact of incorrect disposal of hazardous waste, such as slurry containing chemicals, which is why we collaborate with our clients to come up with proper ways of disposal, in accordance with local regulations.

Training and Awareness

Employee Training: Lomagundi CS operatives are internally and externally trained on environmental management practices and the importance of sustainability. As a company, we also engage with local communities and our clients to address environmental concerns and demonstrate commitment to environmental stewardship.

By implementing these environmental management measures, Lomagundi Construction Services Ltd as a diamond drilling and sawing company significantly reduces its environmental footprint, to comply with regulatory requirements, and thereby promoting sustainable practices.

Beacon Systems & RAMS

Lomagundi Construction Services Ltd regards Health and Safety as paramount as the quality of all its operations and the fulfillment of its clients’ goals for their projects. Per every job we plan, Safety Measures are primary; We place the Health and Safety of our operatives and those within the vicinity of our work activities at the CORE of each and every task and whatever else we may find our hands to do. As well as expanding on a ‘Safe System of Work ‘ or RAMS, we have our very own Beacon System which we adhere to and seconds the former, for Lomagundi CS Ltd Operatives’ peace of mind.

What is and How does the Beacon System work?

Simple! After carefully going through the RAMS, sign off and receiving an Induction on site, our operative(s) will then vigilantly inspect the location of work to be carried out. Using our Beacon System (Red – Stop; Purple – Assess/Rectify/n/a; Blue – Go), which is a Dynamic Risk Assessment(DRA) performed in-situ, our operative(s) will gather information regarding, or assess unpredictable or changing factors that may not have been known  and considered beforehand. These risks fall into different categories such as Human Factors, Environmental Factors, Equipment/System Failures, Slip/Trips and Falls, Access/Egress, Dust and Debris to name but a few. If a tick or an X appears in the Red column, that means our operative(s) can not assume any works activity until the issue is addressed and rectified. A tick in the Purple column means further assessment/investigation to be carried out by both Lomagundi CS and the client, or ‘has been put right.’ Blue simply means Go.
