Foundation Removal

Concrete foundation removal can be a challenging and labour-intensive task, but it’s necessary for various construction, renovation, or landscaping projects. The removal of concrete foundations requires careful approach which involves;

  1. Proper Assessment and Planning to determine the Scope. Understanding the size, thickness, and reinforcement of the concrete foundation helps us in choosing the right tools and methods for removal.
  2. Checking for Utilities before starting, will ensure there are no underground services such as gas and water pipes, waste or electrical services.
  3. Permits and Regulations requirements from local authorities, and,
  4. Environmental impacts considerations. Lomagundi Construction Services  can assist in preparing the Site, whether it’s a big or small project, by removing any debris, plants, or obstacles around the foundation. We can also assist in protecting the surroundings such as nearby structures and plants from debris and dust by employing various protection methods.

We combine all our expertise including Wire Sawing, Floor Sawing, Track Sawing and Diamond Drilling, concrete Bursting/Crunching to tackle foundation removal challenges; working systematically across the foundation by making initial cuts and drilling bursting holes, if necessary, to break it into manageable pieces, which are then broken up by our Brokk machines.

Safety Considerations

Health Risks – Concrete or silica dust, as it is mostly referred to in our industry, can be harmful if inhaled. Lomagundi CS as a company, has strict policies regarding specific and appropriate PPE for the provision of all our services.

Noise and Vibration – Prolonged exposure to noise and vibration from heavy equipment can cause health issues. All our operatives are well trained and are aware of the risks involved in our industry.

Lomagundi CS has the expertise and equipment to safely, efficiently and correctly remove concrete foundations which require careful planning, proper attention to safety measures and sound understanding of the process.

Precast & Cast in Situ Culverts

Culvert removal refers to the process of taking out an existing culvert, which is a structure that allows services such as waste and water to pass through. Culverts are typically made of various materials such as reinforced concrete, which is where our main focus lies. The removal of a culvert is usually part of a broader environmental restoration project or infrastructure upgrade.

Reasons for Culvert Removal vary from poorly designed or old ones, undersized or blocked, which can cause or create barriers to underlying services. Removal or replacement of culverts also prevents flooding “andor”(Lomagundi CS’s claim to the formation of this word and its addition in the dictionary, meaning ‘either’, ‘or’ and ‘and’ put together) services’ interruption.

Infrastructure Upgrades – Older culverts may be structurally unsound or require frequent maintenance. Removing and replacing them with a more durable structure can reduce long-term maintenance costs and increase safety.

Considerations in Culvert Removal include, but not limited to, Environmental Impact Assessment which is often needed to evaluate the potential environmental impacts of culvert removal. This includes understanding how the removal will affect local ecosystems, other environments or services.

Permits and Regulations, depending on the location, may be required in removing a culvert which can be obtained from local councils. Regulations may dictate how the removal is conducted to minimise environmental harm.

Site Restoration after the removal of culverts may be necessary, as the site may typically require restoration to stabilise the area and prevent erosion. This might involve planting trees and vegetation.

It’s important to consider the effects of culvert removal on the surrounding community, including potential changes to road access and land use. Steps in Culvert Removal involve planning and permitting. Developing detailed plans and obtaining necessary permits, considering all environmental and regulatory requirements will ensure that the works are carried out properly. With our Concrete Cutting and Diamond Drilling techniques, Lomagundi Construction Services Ltd has the expertise and equipment to safely, efficiently and correctly remove culverts which requires careful planning, proper attention to safety measures and sound understanding of the processes.

Civil & Groundworks

Civil and Groundworks are indeed foundational elements in construction projects. Here’s a breakdown of the key components involved in Civil and Groundworks, along with how Lomagundi Construction Services Ltd is prepared to handle them:
Key Components of Civil and Groundworks:

  1. Site Preparation – This involves initial work to prepare the site for construction. It includes assessing the site, creating access roads, and setting up the necessary infrastructure for construction activities.
  2. Clearing and Grubbing – This process removes trees, shrubs, and other vegetation from the construction site. It also involves the removal of any roots and stumps to ensure a clean working area.
  3. Demolition – If there are existing structures on the site, demolition might be required to make way for new construction. This process must be handled carefully to ensure safety and minimize environmental impact.
  4. Site Surveying – Before construction can begin, detailed surveys are necessary to understand the site’s topography and layout. This helps in planning the placement of structures and utilities accurately.
  5. Excavation – Excavation involves the removal of soil and rock to create a stable foundation for buildings and other structures. It’s crucial for ensuring that the foundation is built on solid ground.
  6. Foundation Works – These are the construction activities related to laying down the building’s foundation. Foundations must be carefully designed and constructed to support the loads of the entire structure.
  7. Piling – In cases where the ground is not stable enough to support a building’s foundation, piling is used. This involves driving piles into the ground to provide additional support.
  8. Concrete Slabs – These are flat concrete surfaces that form the base of floors in buildings. Properly constructed slabs are crucial for the structural integrity of a building.

Dowel & Tie Bar Placement

Proper placement and installation of Dowel and Tie bars are crucial for the durability and performance of concrete pavements. Incorrect alignment or spacing can lead to pavement failures such as faulting, cracking, and joint deterioration.

Dowel bars are primarily used in concrete pavements at transverse joints to transfer loads between adjacent slabs while allowing for horizontal movement due to thermal expansion and contraction. This load transfer is critical to prevent faulting and unevenness in the pavement.

Tie bars are used in concrete pavements at longitudinal joints to keep adjacent slabs together and prevent them from separating under load or due to thermal changes. Unlike dowel bars, tie bars are not designed to allow movement; instead, they hold the slabs in place.

Dowel bars and tie bars are both essential components in concrete pavement construction. They are used to transfer loads across joints and prevent the slabs from moving independently, which helps maintain the structural integrity and longevity of the pavement.

Lomagundi Construction Services Ltd are able to drill necessary holes for Tie bar Placement and perform Chasing for Dowel bars, because that’s what we do. We understand the crucial Placement Guidelines, Sizes, Location, Spacing, Coating and the Alignment of these; so you can rest assured that we will meet you at any stage of your Installation or Placement project.

We aim for excellence by setting high standards, planning responsibly and honouring our commitments. We are passionate about our work and deeply appreciate our clients.

Structure Remodelling

Remodelling a concrete structure involves several steps to ensure the project is safe, efficient, and effective. The Assessment and Planning stage of remodelling works consists of Evaluating the existing concrete structure, assessing its current condition, paying particular attention to the cracks, signs of wear and tear, structural integrity and any other damages.

Depending on the complexity, a structural engineer may be required to perform a structural analysis to evaluate the load-bearing capabilities and determine whether the structure can support new additions or changes. Once you determine the remodelling needs and have clear definitions with regards to your goals of the remodelling project, Lomagundi Construction Services Ltd will then meet you at this point of your project plan to discuss the processes and end goal.

Our services involve the demolition of parts of the structure that needs to be altered or demolished. Lomagundi CS will carefully and safely use appropriate tools and techniques to avoid damaging the remaining structure. Safety First; we will ensure that all safety protocols are followed to protect operatives and site visitors.

Remodeling a concrete structure can significantly enhance the functionality and aesthetics of a space. With proper planning and execution, Lomagundi Construction Services Ltd can help you achieve a successful remodel that meets your needs and adheres to safety standards.

We will maintain open communications with all parties involved, including contractors, designers, and engineers, to avoid misunderstandings and ensure a smooth project flow.

Deposition

Depositing concrete into its desired form during construction is critical in ensuring the strength, durability, and the aesthetic quality of the final concrete structure. The deposition involves several steps and considerations to achieve optimal results. We begin the preparation with the formwork or moulds that hold the concrete in place, ensuring reinforcement is properly installed and making sure the area is free of water and debris. The next crucial part is mixing; is the concrete to be mixed on site or to be transported as ready-mix. The ingredients must be proportioned accurately to achieve the desired properties. There are many other factors to consider in between, including environmental factors. Weather conditions, such as temperature, humidity, and wind, can affect the deposition and curing processes. These factors must be managed to avoid rapid drying or improper setting.

Here at Lomagundi CS, we understand the unique requirements of each stage of concrete deposition. We can provide tailored solutions to meet those needs.

Our commitment to quality and customer satisfaction ensures that every job is completed to the highest standards.

Distribution

Whether it’s concrete cutting, drilling or pouring, Lomagundi Construction Services Ltd specialises in concrete transportation or distribution. Proper concrete distribution is crucial for maintaining the quality and structural integrity of the concrete, preventing weaknesses, and ensuring a durable final product. The goal is to ensure that the concrete is evenly spread and compacted, achieving the required shape, strength, and durability. This involves moving concrete from the mixing site to the location where it will be used. We arrange Transit Mixers/Concrete Trucks that keep the concrete agitated while it is being transported to prevent it from setting before reaching the site. Through our business partners, we can also arrange Concrete Pumps for those difficult-to-reach locations, such as high-rise buildings or through narrow spaces, as well as buckets and cranes for construction sites where concrete needs to be transported vertically.

 We take great care to avoid segregation (separation of the coarse aggregate from the paste) and ensure a uniform mixture. We employ methods such as;

  • Direct Pouring, which involves pouring concrete directly from the truck or bucket.
  • Pumping through pipelines or hoses to the specific location. This method is particularly useful for large pours or where access is difficult.
  • Chutes or sloping trough, directing the concrete to its final location (often used in combination with transit mixers)

Then comes Compaction and Finishing; After placing the concrete, it needs to be compacted to remove air pockets and ensure it fills all spaces within the formwork. This can be done using:

  • Vibrators – Handheld or form-mounted vibrators to consolidate concrete.
  • Tamping –  A common process that we use mainly for slabs and pavements where tamping bars or screeds level and compact the concrete surface.
  • Floating and Trowelling –  Smoothing and finishing the surface of the concrete.

Consolidation

Concrete consolidation process is vital in freshly poured concrete as the Compaction procedure will help to eliminate voids and ensure that the mixture is dense, uniform, and properly bonded to reinforcement and formwork. This process is essential to improve the strength, durability, and overall quality of the concrete structure. Effective consolidation removes air pockets and excess water that can weaken the concrete, ensuring that the mixture fills all spaces around the reinforcement bars (rebar) and adheres properly to the surfaces it is in contact with. Here at Lomagundi Construction Services Ltd we use various Methods of Concrete Consolidation including;

  1. Vibration
    • Internal Vibration, also known as immersion or poker vibration. This method uses a vibrating probe which we insert into the concrete. The probe causes the concrete to vibrate and compact, eliminating air bubbles and allowing the mix to settle.
    • External Vibration involves attaching vibrators to the outside of the formwork, which is commonly used for thin sections or heavily reinforced areas where internal vibrators may not be effective.
    • Surface Vibration, normally applied to the top surface of the concrete, is often used for slab construction and involves using a vibrating screed(a power concrete screed) or a surface vibrator.
  2. Hand Compaction. For some small-scale projects, hand tools like tamping rods or roughnecks can be used to manually compact the concrete. This method is less effective than vibration but can be suitable for minor or low-strength applications.
  3. Roller Compaction, used primarily in roller-compacted concrete (RCC) pavements, this method involves the use of heavy rollers to compress the concrete mix, which has a low water content.

Proper consolidation of concrete is critical for several reasons:

Increased Strength – Durability – Bonding – Uniformity

Here at Lomagundi CS, concrete consolidation is, to us, a key process in the construction of concrete structures, directly affecting the durability, strength, and overall quality of the finished product.
